Everglades and Madagascar’s rainforest included in UNESCO’s danger list

UNESCO adds Everglades National Park of Florida and Madagascar’s Atsinanana tropical rainforest in its list of at-risk world heritage locations due to natural complications and human intervention.
 
According to the agency, there has been a fall of 60 per cent in the water flow in the wetland due to agricultural and urban development. Wetland is a major wildlife sanctuary and the high pollution level has caused the killing of marine life.
 
In Madagascar there has been excessive illegal logging and poaching by the military coup over a year that has put the forests under threat.
 
The Unesco’s World Heritage Committee voted on Thursday to romove the Galapagos Islands from the list saying significant progress has been made by Ecuador in protecting its ecosystem.
