Chemical dispersant limit waived routinely in Gulf
New Orleans – Congressional subcommittee releases new documents indicating too much toxic chemical was used by company and Coast Guard in the cleanup effort of surface waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the investigation, the U.S. Coast Guard approved the requests of BP routinely for the use of thousands of gallons of chemical every day to break up the oil.
A federal directive was issued earlier to rarely make use of such dispersant.
The documents note that 74 waivers were apporved by the Coast Guard over a period of 84 days.
