BP used excess chemical dispersants

An excessive amount of chemical dispersants in the Gulf of Mexico were allowed to be used by BP while the Coast Guard officials kept mum about the matter. This was reported when anew document was released by a congressional subcommittee.

After the Deep water Horizon rig explosion in April 20millions of gallons of crude was released and BP used the chemicals to break up oil gushing.

Rep. Edward J. Markey, who is the chairman of the House Energy and Environment Subcommittee, said that Coast Guard routinely granted exemptions, even when there was a federal directive against the use of such chemical depressants.
