Maradona under pressure from AFA to resign from Argentina coach post
Maradona is under pressure from the Argentine Football Association to leave the coach post.
Association had asked Maradona to replace majority of his staff. Maradona refused to
Renew his contract if the AFA dismissed even a single person of his coaching staff.
But AFA president Julio Grondona asked him to replace his staff members in a meeting held on Monday. Thus he has effectively shown Maradona the door.
Two weeks ago, Maradona neglected the renewal offer of his contract from AFA and travelled to Venezuela to meet his friend Hugo Chavez.
Maradona’s relationship with key figures in Argentine soccer is also tense. He kept leaders of the AFA, and businessmen with commercial ties to the organization, out of practice sessions in South Africa, while allowing reporters to enter.
Estudiantes coach Alejandro Sabella and Racing’s Miguel Russo are next in line to take charge in case Maradona resigns.
