Yahoo Messenger Virus Attack

An instant message containing a link to photos which appears to be from a person in your contact list us the new version of an aggressive, older virus which spreads via MSN Messenger and allows the attacker to take control of your computer.

“It extends like a forest fire.” Believing that a friend sends you pictures of Yahoo Messenger user accesses the link.

Once your computer is infected, the entire list of friends will get the same link. This virus is known as Palevo (BitDefender), W32.Ymfocard.fam.Botnet (the BKIS) and W32.Yimfoca (Symantec).

However,the user can control the situation. In fact, the link leads to a file Exe and unless the user runs it, the virus does not affect the computer.

According to Symantec, if this file is run, it will be one of the Windows Firewall or Windows Update service that stops. Further, understandable, villains take over the computer and can do absolutely everything from stealing passwords to deleted files.
