Jessica Ennis leads Great Britain gold medal rush
Barcelona, Spain – Jessica Ennis of Great Britain won the European heptathion gold medal with a new Championships record on Saturday.
Ennis, 24, captained Great Britain, ran 2 minutes 10.18 seconds, 2.12sec ahead of second-placed Ukrainian Dobrynska, posting a record of 6,823 points in total. Dobrynska was 45 points adrift to claim silver. She needed only 1.2sec to beat Ennis and crowned with gold medal.
Britain won three gold and two silver medals and the total count reaches to 16.
In the javelin throw Ennis was at her personal best with 46.71 meters and Dobrynska’s was with 49.25 meters.
