Number of Unemployed Drops AP/Department of Labor

The department of labor reported that the number of newly laid off workers filing for unemployment has fell by 14,000 from last weeks number of 474,000.

This decline in the number of unemployeds filing for the benefits came after the claims had risen by 28,000 in the previous week, when the largest gain in three months was marked. However, economists had expected level to fall further to 455,000.

It also needs to be mentioned that the latest levels of claims is still slightly higher than what it was at the start of the year.

Even though the economy has been trying to recover after the worst recession hit, it after the 1930, the pace has not been enough to make a dent at the high level of unemployement.
