Flooding in Eastern Europe
At least seven people died and hundreds were evacuated because of flooding caused by the heavy rainfall in Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Serbia, today announced intervention herds and local agencies, reports AFP.
A man drowned, a woman died and a firefighter died during a rescue operation, probably due to heart attacks, said a spokesman for the firefighters, Pawel Fratczak.
Another man taken by the water is sought, while about 2,000 people were evacuated in southern Poland today, following the torrential rains that have hit this region, firemen announced.
Around 500 people were evacuated in Cracow region and other 1500 were about to be discharged Monday, according to fire spokesman.
Housing, roads and a railway link between Krakow and Zakopane, a resort in the Tatra Mountains, were flooded.
In the Czech Republic, a woman aged 69 years died due to a flooded creek in the East, due to torrential rain, police announced Monday.
In Slovakia, about 350 persons were evacuated Monday in the east, southeast and north. Slovak Minister of Defence announced that 3,700 soldiers will be maintained on alert will be sent to affected areas if the situation worsens.
In Serbia, Beta Agency announced the deaths of two people after a river in the south flooded the area.
