A mine explosion in Turkey
At least 30 people are missing and rescue crews have stepped up searches in northern Turkey, where today an explosion occurred in a coal mine, announced Monday.
32 people are missing after the explosion.
Miners were working on the expansion and strengthening of the Karadon mine tunnels , located in the Zonguldak province on the Black Sea when the explosion occurred.
The cause of the explosion is not known yet, according to the statement the governor of the province.
Eight miners were found trapped in an elevator and could be saved.
“We are trying to find the missing persons”, said earlier the Turkish Minister of Labour, Ömer Dinçer, quoted by Anatolia.
In February, 13 miners died in a blast from a mine in northwestern Turkey.
