Apple to Launch Apple iPhone iOS 4 at 1 p.m. ET
Today Apple will release the new, upgraded iOS 4 around 1 p.m. ET, 10 a.m. PT, according to sources.
Owners of 2008’s iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod Touch, and 2009’s 3GS and third-generation iPod Touch, will be able to download the free iOS 4 upgrade today.
Though, iOS 4 will not be available to users of the first-generation iPhone or iPod Touch, which is to be launched in September.
So what do you get with the IOS 4 software update for the Apple iPhone?
- Multitasking: The lack of multitasking was a big turn off for most iPhone users. Now, IOS 4 makes the iPhone capable of running multiple applications simultaneously.
- Folders: Users can now better organize their iPhone apps with home-screen folders to cut down on clutter.
- Spell check: No more misspelled words, as errors are underlined in red. A quick tap of the underlined word offers up spelling suggestions.
- Bluetooth keyboard support: For heavy typers who want to use a real keyboard.
- Unified email: IOS 4 offers a unified email inbox, tying together multiple mailboxes. Users can also view emails by thread. The new mail update also lets Apple iPhone users open attachments in third-party applications.
- iBooks support: Now the Apple iPad isn’t the only device to run iBooks, Apple’s ebook offering. IOS 4 lets Apple iPhone users download and read ebooks right on the device.
- Home screen wallpaper: Users can now change the wallpaper background on their home screen.
