Tax on Indoor Marijuana Growers
Local government in California and other western states have tried to clamp down on medical marijuana by imposing tax on them.
It has become the first U.S city to impose tax on medical Marijuana dispensaries. The possibilities are that Oakland can soon become the first to sanction and tax commercial pot growing operations.
Under the federal law, selling and growing of marijuana is illegal.
Also the city is facing a $42 million budget shortfall and the tax on the grower’s sale to the clubs could bring in substantially more, said one of the authors, Councilman Larry Reid.
