Turkish opposition leader resigns over sex scandal
The Turkish opposition leader, Deniz Baykal, has resigned from the leadership position that he occupied in the People’s Republican Party (CHP). This event occurred after an Internet video, in which he appears in a bedroom with a woman, was made public, reports Reuters.
“There is no video of a sexual nature, this is a conspiracy,” affirmed former CHP leader, accusing his political opponents that they are behind this film.
According to France Presse, the video depicts Baykal, aged 71, in a room with one of the CHP advocates. “This conspiracy is not pointed against one person only, but against CHP fight to defend the republic, democracy and the law” defended himself the politician.
Baykal’s resignation comes in a very unsuitable context as two weeks are left until the party congress meeting at which the Turkish leader was to run for another mandate.
