57 ancient tombs with mummies unearthed in Egypt
57 ancient Egyptian tombs have been unearthed in Lathoun, in Fayoum, – 70 miles south of Cairo – most that have their own mummy inside a painted sarcophagus.
The oldest tombs date before 2750 B.C. Twelve tombs belong to the 18th dynasty that ruled Egypt during the second millennium B.C.
The head of the archaeological mission, Abdel Rahman El-Aydi, said that the tombs have religious text decorated on them, text that according to ancient Egyptian beliefs, help the deceased to cross over to the underworld.
In 31 tops there were discovered scenes of ancient Egyptian deities, Horus, Hator, Khnum and Amun, that decorated the tombs.
