BlackBerry services restricted in UAE from October

Dubai, UAE – Middle East’s business hub the United Arab Emirates said Sunday it will suspend BlackBerry mobile communication services from October 11 because of security concerns. Maker Research in Motion (RIM) was also hit by similar restrictions in recent weeks in India.

The messenger, e-mail and Web browsing services of the BlackBerry will be halted said the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in a statement on its official website.

This decision of the authority came after repeated attempts to make the services of the mobile compatible with the legal framework of UAE.

TRA said, “Due to its technical nature, some BlackBerry services, like the messenger, email, and web browsing, remain beyond the implementation of local laws.”

Etisalat, the largest provider of telecommunications services of UAE, acknowledged the decision.
