Khodorkovsky went on hunger strike
Former president of the Yukos oil group, Mikhail Khodorkovsky announced that he had started a hunger strike in an open letter to the President of the Supreme Court of Russia, AFP reported.
Khodorkovsky, who has appeared in court since 2009 for embezzlement and illegal resale of oil, alleging that he was unlawfully prolonged custody pending trial, despite legislative changes launched by President Dmitry Medvedev.
Legislative amendments provide that any person suspected of committing certain economic crimes, especially those for which Khodorkovsky is accused can not be placed in provisional detention.
