Europe risks being marginalized by Asia

A recent report shows that, without ambitious reforms in the political, economic and military, Europe risks being marginalized by the Asian world.

Report on the Future of Europe, drafted by a group led by former Spanish premier Felipe Gonzalez at the request of EU countries shows that the next years will be decisive for the future of Europe.

“Year 2010 may mark either the beginning of a new phase for the EU and Europe becoming in the next 50 years an important global player or the Union and the Member States may enter into marginalization and become a peninsula increasingly neglected by the Asian states”, states the document reviewed by the AFP.

While China is growing uncontrollably, Japan maintains high power state, and countries like Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia are still on track, the euro area is undergoing a major crisis, and the only way out of it, the report says, is a “better economic policy coordination and tight collaboration in the national budget policy.
