After finishing 12th in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, the Indy rookie flew to the United States, where he will stay through race day. Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi qualified in the Top 10 for the IndyCar Grand Prix, so can they finally get a decent result out of it?
Power said during the final laps he was trying to maintain the gap over Dixon and manage the tires.
"If we had been on par with the Chevys, I don't think we'd have done it, but because there was such a margin, we felt we had to go for it".
Until this weekend, nothing had come easily for Power this season.
It's not been a good recent run for Bourdais, who opened the season with a victory at St. Petersburg, Fla.
He seemed destined to win at Alabama until a flat tyre forced him to pit and dropped him to 14th.
Dixon is now second in the championship, 10 points behind Pagenaud.
There's no driver more determined in the field than Will Power, though, and Power has been fast when he's not running into Charlie Kimball or getting flat tires.
He posted the fastest lap in practice Friday then won the pole in a track record time. Castroneves was second at 1:08.1169, setting up the teammates for their third consecutive side-by-side start.
"It was good to get a win". From 20th and 14th on the grid respectively, they started on Firestone's black primary tires and carved their way through the field being on the softer, red alternate tires the rest of the day up to sixth and seventh.

Humorous 'Guardians' set Marvel on new path for superhero movies
If you find yourself asking why Russell's role was so weird because you haven't seen the film yet, turn back now. A different entity certainly makes him sound as though he might be part of the mysterious Watcher race himself.
Power's teammates had the same problem.
Simon Pagenaud passed Castroneves with a few laps remaining to finish fourth. He finished fifth, and it marked the second straight race the Penske drivers led every lap.
The only real surprise was Penske didnt have five cars in the top six.
After Newgarden, the next three spots were all taken by Honda drivers. Pagenaud has finished in the top 5 of all four races this year, including a win in the last race at Phoenix. If he's going to become the first American to win back-to-back 500s since 1970-71, he knows it's time to get ready.
In 2015, he started the Grand Prix 17th and worked his way up to second.
"I'm going to stop that alternating in a couple of weeks, " Power said, referring to the May 28 Indianapolis 500. "It was good for everyone". He also has been hot this year, building off last year's series championship.
Just after the halfway point of the race and another round of pitstops, Power resumed the lead with Castroneves following close behind.
"I think we unloaded fast and had a good start to the day in practice overall with the NTT Data auto", Dixon said.

Johnny Sauter avoided trouble all night to finish second.
