The Conservatives are on track to secure their best election result in a decade and winn hundreds of council seats with only a third of results in, ahead of the crunch national poll on June 8.
However, Professor Thrasher said his projection was some way short of the win being forecast by opinion polls.
With full results declared by all 88 councils holding elections in England, Scotland and Wales, the Tories had control of 28 authorities, including 11 gains.
The Labour party lost control of seven councils and 380 seats, but won the mayoral contests in northern England cities of Doncaster and Liverpool, according to the BBC.
