The NSE Nifty rose by 28.75 points or 0.31 per cent to 9,314.05 points, while the BSE Sensex closed at 29,926.15 points - up 67.35 points or 0.23 per cent. It briefly touched a record high of 2,399.94.

In investments, provisional data with the exchanges showed that Foreign Institutional Investors bought stocks worth Rs 332.87 crore while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased scrips worth Rs 16.92 crore. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.03 per cent higher yesterday.
Back home, banking stocks erased the gains of their recent rally as participants pocketed profits at higher levels. On the other hand, banking index was down 0.23 per cent and healthcare 0.05 per cent.
Among BSE sectoral indices, metal index gained the most by 1.2 per cent, followed by realty 1.1 per cent, capital goods 0.97 per cent and power 0.96 per cent.

The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 3,953.75 crore, higher than Rs 3,208.30 crore registered during the previous trading session.
