A man was arrested Monday in a string of serial killings that terrified a Phoenix neighborhood past year, a huge break in a case that involved nine deaths and a dozen separate shootings.
At a press conference, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said the arrest brought the families of the nine people killer "closer to justice".
The shootings took place between August 2015 and July 2016.
All three were shot as they sat in a vehicle listening to music outside their Maryvale home in Phoenix, according to police.
"I'm happy my kids are going to be able to walk outside and I won't have to fear that they're going to get shot", said Rose Pastrana, who leads a block watch group in the neighborhood.
The investigation into the serial killings had focused what authorities said were seven fatal shootings. The mother of a young man who was the second person killed wished police could have connected her son's death to the case earlier, potentially taking Saucedo off the streets before more killings were committed.
Police say they have also linked Saucedo to the January 2016 shooting death of 22-year-old Jessie Olivas, ABC15 reports.
"I feel as if, 'I think this might be the guy.' I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but when you haven't seen someone in a long time and perhaps you haven't even spoke to them, but when you see them, you have some sort of contact with them - you instantly recognize them even though you can't recall their name".
It's believed the same suspect has killed seven people and injured or shot at several others.

Aaron Saucedo was arrested for a fatal shooting in April, but. has since been re-booked in connection with another 26 charges in connection with shootings from March until July of 2016.
Williams said the first victim in the shootings was Raul Romero, 61, who was killed in August 2015.
Tips from the public led to Saucedo being linked to last year's killings, Williams said.
Police are still determining a motive, and have not found correlations between most of the victims and Saucedo.
Police say Saucedo shot at two teenage boys on March 17, 2016, striking one of them in the arm.
- Diego Verdugo-Sanchez was shot dead on April 1, 2016 in front of his home. "But they wanted me to find out from them and not the news". Saucedo struck again the following day, shooting a 21-year-old man who also lived, according to reports.
"The only thing I can say is thank God there's going to be justice and we leave it in God's hands".
