While data for NY state's manufacturing sector was weaker than expected, USA homebuilder sentiment gave investors some confidence in the economy.

On the United States economic front, the National Association of Home Builders released a report showing homebuilder confidence has unexpectedly improved in the month of May.
But a report from the US Commerce Department housebuilding fell 2.6% in April compared with March. South Korea's Kospi index rose 0.2 percent. The weakness was led by a big drop in construction of apartments.
Target Corp (NYSE: TGT) will report before market open on Thursday.
Emerging market stocks rose 0.51 per cent. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan closed 0.37 percent higher, while Japan's Nikkei rose 0.25 percent.
