Charter schools Basis Tucson North and Basis Oro Valley were ranked second and third respectively, while TUSD's University High School came in at No. 15 on the U.S. News & World Report's 2017 Best High Schools rankings list. Several celebrated city schools, including Stuyvesant High School and Brooklyn Technical High School, didn't make the top 10 list because more students at other schools passed Advanced Placement exams, U.S. News & World Report data strategist Bob Morse said.
Benjamin Franklin High School is rated best in Louisiana and 70th in the nation, according to the review.
Schools in Naperville, Aurora, and West Chicago also placed in the U.S. News rankings.
The national ranking, released Tuesday, pegs the North Charleston magnet school at No. 11, down from the eighth in 2016 and seventh in 2015.
Utah was ranked in 14th place on the list for its proportion of schools with gold or silver awards.
